Suwon is the capital city of Gyeonggi Province, located in the northwestern part of South Korea, just a couple of hours south of Seoul. The gate features seven arched openings of varying sizes, with the central arch being the largest. This design not only serves a practical purpose but also adds to the architectural beauty of the fortress.
The Hwaseong Fortress wall stretches 5.74 kilometers in length and encompasses an area of 130 hectares, gracefully following the topography of the Suwon region. The wall is equipped with numerous defensive features, including floodgates, observation towers, command posts, and various bastions for firearms and archers. These elements not only enhance the fortress’s defensive capabilities but also reflect the ingenuity of its design.
The Korean Folk Village is a vibrant cultural and historical theme park that showcases traditional Korean life and customs. Established in 1974, the village aims to preserve and promote Korean heritage through a variety of exhibits, performances, and interactive activities. The Folk Village features over 300 traditional houses and structures from various regions of Korea, particularly representing the historical periods of the Joseon Dynasty.
